A not fairy, tale. - 2024/2026
“A not fairy, Tale” was born from observing the region where I was born, raised and from which I moved: the Aosta Valley. My return to the Valley in recent years has allowed me to observe such a familiar place with different eyes. I began to find fascinating all those things that I had previously found obvious: nature, people, folklore. This work was in fact born from the personal and contemporary interpretation of local folklore, of that great collection of legends, myths and imaginary characters that are still handed down today - data from generation to generation.
Inspired by the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, I decided to tell with images a contemporary fairy tale of this region and its inhabit- ants, trying to highlight its culture and social problems. The protagonists of this tale are the locals, not legendary creatures; the moun- tains, villages, and festivals are not simply backdrops, but active elements of the story. This fairy tale oscillates between reality and imagination, with the aim of investigating more deeply the dynamics of a people embraced by the mountains through a gaze that goes beyond the postcard image.
“A not fairy Tale” aims to be a contemporary fairy tale that connects past and present, reality and imagination, a story not necessarily with a happy ending, but capable of telling the essence of this place.
